The team behind OIC Cambodia, ranked in the world's top 500 NGOs according to NGO Advisor in 2015 and 2016 has opened a new child therapy clinic in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The clinic is called Happy Kids Clinic, and is established in partnership with Khema Global, and located in Khema International Polyclinic.
We're seeking Occupational Therapists from all over the world to join the international team. We're open to both short term and longer term placements, but prefer longer term placements.
The Occupational Therapist will deliver high quality therapy services primarily to children with sensory processing and play skill difficulties, in English, and mentor Cambodian Therapy Assistants. There will be opportunities to develop other areas of Occupational Therapy practice as determined by community need and interests of successful applicant.
The clinic will raise awareness of allied health therapy in Cambodia and train local therapy assistants. A percentage of profits generated will further the work of OIC Cambodia, an initiative that is working to establish speech therapy as a profession in Cambodia.
This is a unique opportunity to help start occupational therapy in a country where there are no local Cambodian occupational therapists. You will work with a small but productive team of international and local staff and volunteers, in an international standard facility in the centre of town.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assess, treat, and implement patient care in accordance with international best practices.
• Develop treatment plans, including short and long‐term goals, and methods to achieve identified goals.
• Develop the child's occupational therapy program in consultation with the family.
• Raise the profile of occupational therapy in a country where there is no occupational therapy university course.
• Initiate potential Occupational Therapy referrals through promotion of the profession within targeted education, health and parent communities in Phnom Penh
• Supervise and mentor the Therapy Assistant.
• Share knowledge and provide clinical orientation to staff and volunteers, in particular the Therapy Assistant.
ABOUT YOU
You are an occupational therapist with a desire to learn and adapt, while still maintaining the highest levels of quality and transparency. Comfortable working in a changing environment, you are a self-starter who can take initiative to identify what needs to be done and do it. You will have resilience and the flexibility to adapt, whilst maintain a high level of relevant professional skills and knowledge.
In addition, you are/have:
• Tertiary education in occupational therapy and relevant paediatric work experience
• Registered with professional body in home country
• Maintained certification and professional development in line with international evidence based practices
• Able to work independently on a daily basis without supervision
• Easy-going, flexible and happy to be part of an innovative, dynamic and developing team
• Willingness to develop a new initiative and work outside the framework of a traditional job setting
• A keen interest in learning and skills improvement, combined with humility to recognise that many answers are unknown
• Excellent training and mentoring skills and ability to provide formal and informal supervision and professional development at base level for therapy assistants and volunteers
• Fluent English speaker, with a desire to learn basic Khmer
• A passion for promoting the profession of Occupational Therapy within new practice contexts
• Interest in and knowledge of creative and innovative evidence based practices in paediatric Occupational Therapy and ability to confidently apply knowledge and skills in promoting this field
Desirable qualifications, experience, skills, and personal attributes:
• Desire to learn basic Khmer
• Experience working within culturally diverse practice contexts and populations with varied health literacy and disability awareness
CONTRACT TERMS & REMUNERATION
Though we prefer a full time role working Monday to Friday, a part time role will be considered. We're open to both short term and longer term placements. This position is based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Short term placements require a three-month commitment with negotiable conditions.
Long term placement involve a one year renewable contract with a probationary period of three months. During the probation period we will guarantee a net base salary of US$941 per month. After this period, renumeration is a base salary with a percentage of fee generation in addition.
Typical rent for a one bedroom apartment close to the city centre is between USD$250-500 per month. A coffee costs between 75c to US$3.00. A half hour taxi from the city centre to the airport costs US$7. the city centre to the airport costs $7. Phnom Penh is a cosmopolitan city which has a growing social and cultural scene, with many pubs, cafes and artistic outlets. The city is a welcoming place to live for visitors from overseas and has a large expat community, mostly from the NGO sector, living and working within Phnom Penh.
The base salary is expected to cover most people's daily living costs in Phnom Penh, while at a higher rate of referral and fee generation the successful applicant will be expected to have significant surplus income and the capacity to build savings whilst working in the role.

The clinic will cover administrative costs and support, including clinic space and equipment, marketing, support staff, documentation filing, booking of appointments and collection of fees. Relocation costs will be negotiated upon shortlisting and interview. We will provide your work permit.
