alysia Prone positioning has been identified as a helpful treatment approach for COVID-19 patients. With this positioning comes the risk of skin breakdown and the need for gels/rolls/pillows to achieve this position for the patient. Our facility has not yet experienced a surge in critical care capacity however, we anticipate that this might be the case in the weeks to come based on trends from across the world. If we see these surges our supply of gels/rolls will be exceeded and we are looking at ways to increase our supply of these items/ make these items in advance. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this or if anyone has made these items and would be willing to share resources re. material used to facilitate skin integrity and to achieve the proper positioning. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Tomomi This is one idea. http://www.wound-treatment.jp/next/case/556.htm We can use gel inside the diaper. ↑This HP is Japanese, but you can understand how to make gel cushion. I hope I can be of any help to you.
sl Thank you for starting this thread. Do you have a bed and mattress that use use as a standard for prone positioning? Are there particular rolls, bolsters or pillows that you find effective for pressure injury prevention while prone positioning? I have done a literature search but have not found much to guide in terms of what specific equipment to use.
