As part of my thesis in occupational therapy, I am researching the usefulness that OT could have in the treatment of severe burns in the acute phase. I am particularly interested in the manufacture of hand orthoses during palmar burns on the dorsal side.
In France the rehabilitation treatment of severe burn victims begins in a rehabilitation centre, several months after the burn. During this critical phase of intensive care, patients suffering from palmar burns are not fitted with braces, which causes great cutaneous limitations. French occupational therapists do not work currently in the acute phase but are trying to dertermine if there is an interest in changing this situation.
I am therefore interviewing French occupational therapists working in rehabilitation centers but also occupational therapists from other countries working in centers for acute-phase burn treatment for the purpose of comparing. Finally, I could compare practices in different countries and drawing conclusions on potential needs in our care.
