Hi everyone,
I completed my MScOT in Canada and practiced there as a pediatric community OT for 10 years before moving to Korea in November 2022. At the time, it didn't seem possible to practice as an OT here unless I spoke Korean, so I've been working as an English teacher for the past year.
I recently spoke with a friend who works as a psychologist and found out she's been practicing as a psychologist in English here in Korea for the past 4 years because she works at a foreigner clinic. I'm now curious if I could do something similar. Has anyone here in this forum made a similar transition as an OT from Canada?
Prior to moving to Korea in Nov 2022, I had done the following:
- spoken with my provincial regulatory body and found out I'm limited to physically working within Canada under my Canadian licensing
- attempted to reach out to the Korean OT Association and didn't hear back
- looked into Korean licensing and it looked like I had to practice in Korean in Korea, and I don't speak Korean
- paused my Canadian OT permit because I wouldn't be able to maintain the required working hours with moving to Korea
In the past month, I've done the following:
- reached out to WFOT and they directed me to licensing sites, the Korean OT Association, and this forum
- started searching for foreigner clinics to see if any of the counselors are OTs
- looked into the Korean licensing website, but it's really confusing because most of it's in Korean
I would appreciate any help you could provide!
Warmly,
Queena
