Hello everyone,
I am an OTD student, and I am planning to focus my capstone on occupational therapy’s role in addressing period poverty and menstrual health disparities among low-income and unhoused populations. I am seeking insight into the following questions to help guide my research:
- What are the primary menstrual hygiene management challenges faced by this population, and what client and environmental factors contribute to these challenges?
- How do menstrual health disparities impact occupational performance?
- Which occupations are most affected? (e.g., health management, sleep, work, school, social participation)
- What are the root causes of period poverty, and who is most impacted?
- What facilitators and barriers exist in addressing period poverty?
- What is OT’s role in addressing period poverty or supporting individuals affected by it?
- What are the barriers to accessing OT services for this population?
- Have OT-led or interdisciplinary services already been developed in this area?
- What interventions are most needed?
- What are the limitations of OT services in addressing this issue?
Additionally, if you have any resources, research, or insights that could help inform my project, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you!
