Hello there!
I am Jemilyn Kaw, a second year BS Occupational Therapy students in the University of the Philippines, Manila. My favorite occupations are listening to music, singing, learning new things and making new friends. (You can add me on Facebook 😉 )
I never heard of Occupational Therapy until filing for admission of the university entrance exam. I learned this from friends and elders who have OTs in their family. They told me that there's a field for pediatrics in OT, and an occupation relating to children, is enough reason for me to choose this course. (I love kids so much and my childhood dream and motivation is to be a pediatrician). If ever I choose to continue med school, I would go into pediatrics; but now, I doubt because I have discovered that there are so much to do with being an occupational therapist.
Here in our university, I've met many friends, including course mates and friends from different courses that are allied to our future occupation (such as Physical Therapy); although our own college is not as big as colleges from other schools, I still enjoy being inside the college building. It feels like home! You get to know all the people, you get to greet the same guard every morning and he'll surely greet you back with a smile; furthermore, you get to meet people who would gladly assist and be friends with you! Oh! We even have an honesty store on the 3rd floor wherein you pick your snack/beverage and put the exact amount on the money bank (you get the change yourself if you paid with a larger bill. Our university dignifies honor before excellence. (Honor and Excellence)

My life is not only concentrated in academics and school organization. I always make sure that I have time to help my mother, a Chinese teacher, in her school work; at the same time, I accept invitations from my old school or other well-respected elders in my Filipino-Chinese community and perform for them in various events such as Chinese New Year, Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day and others. Although I feel stressed out sometimes, I still see myself being productive and productivity makes me happy, don't we all? 🙂
Why OT touches my heart? Because OTs make lives better, and that's what the world needs in our present context!
Feel free to reply on my post and let's be friends! 🙂
