SSHermes
Hello everyone, I am Susan Skees Hermes. I am both a 32 year OT clinician and an OTD student through Boston University graduating this May. I have been working on the development of a needs assessment for those OTs working in mainland China with children and families. There is not a depth of available literature in English, but there has been some relevant research in peer reviewed publications emerging. I am looking to share any and all that I have uncovered so far in the next 6 months to a year. Recently I was fortunate to attend a preconference workshop sponsored by the WHO/ Rehabilitation Society of Hong Kong/ Hong Kong University Hospital in Shenzhen, China; and participate in the following days symposium with the distinguished 5th Dr. Harry Feng invited guest lecturer Darryl Barrett from the Technical Lead, Disabilities and Rehabilitation at World Health Organization. This was tremendously helpful to be immersed in the activities and expansion here in China.
I am reaching out to see if anyone has a response to share with me on any or all of the following:
1)personal lived experiences they would like to share with me to include in my current research on their experiences with professional development in pediatrics in China or their OT practices opportunities or challenges,
2) knows of upcoming research pending publication regarding the status of the expat licensure in different provinces,
3) the numbers and names of the current WFOT approved OT academic programs in mainland China as of Jan 2017,
4) the status of a formalization OT membership in WFOT for the mainland China OT group, and/ or
5) would like to correspond on the possibilities of an outside community of practice to support the many efforts going on within China.
Happy Chinese New Year to all,
Susan
