I am currently a third year Occupational Therapist at Saint Louis University and am loving every minute of it. I had the opportunity last semester to study abroad in Madrid, Spain and it opened my eyes to a whole new world. I loved the experience of being abroad and it made me consider future perspective career paths. At the time, I wasn't sure if Occupational Therapy even existed in Europe, as it is still a developing field in the US. From information given to me by locals, OT wasn't really present in most healthcare systems. I love to experience new cultures and observe how other people do things based on their cultural roots and upbringing. I know there is far more to experience out there than the typical role of an Occupational Therapist in the United States. As a curious college student I am reaching out to see if anyone knows of any strong abroad programs or opportunities that could potentially allow me to live abroad temporarily after graduation or any programs I could take part in while still in school (potentially and summer internship of some sort). My other question is if there are any ways to receive scholarships or grants to go abroad. I would love to obtain the experience but of course travel is costly. I am nearly fluent in Spanish so I feel that locations that are predominantly spanish-speaking would be a good fit for me, because I could apply my second language skills. I am open to hear what people have to say! I am reaching out because I have no prior knowledge regarding this topic. As of 6 months ago I didn't even know OT existed out of the U.S.!
